Commander Dennistoun, Peel Forest, who has been on a visit to England, returned by the Wanganella.

Mr A. J. Galpin, field instructor of the Department of Agriculture in the Manawatu district, has been appointed supervisor of show exhibits for the department, with headquarters in Wellington.

Mr T. B. Gusscott, director and general manager of J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., has, on medical advice, relinquished his position. Mr Gusscott has been associated with the McKenzie interests for the last 16 years. Mr J. R. Hanan, Deputy Mayor of Invercargill, has agreed to nomination as a candidate for the office of Mayor. Mr Hanan has been a city councillor since 1935. He is the son of Mrs J. M. Hanan and the late Mr J. A. Hanan, and a nephew of the Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., a former Mayor of Invercargill and Chancellor of the New Zealand University. An arrival at Wellington by the Remuera yesterday was the Rev. Alan Brash, who has been called to St. Andrew’s Church, Wanganui. Mr Brash, who is a son of Mr and Mrs T. C. Brash, of Seatoun, is a graduate of Otago University and has been in Edinburgh for three years. He completed his theological course there and at the same time took his B.D. degree with distinction in theology. The good work that Mr A. E. Sandral, who leaves shortly on transfer to Victoria, had done for the advancement of the game in South Canterbury, was acknowledged at last night’s annual meeting of the South Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association. Mr N. A. Moore mentioned that Mr Sandral had taken over the presidency of the Association in the early part of last season and had carried out his duties to the satisfaction of all players in South Canterbury. A first-class player, with experience in Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand, Mr Sandral, had taken a very active part in district tennis as a player, organiser, president of the Timaru Club and president of the South Canterbury Association. Mrs Sandral and he had also been excellent hosts to visiting players. He was sure that all followers of the sport would congratulate him on being able to return home after 14 years in the Dominion. Mr J. S. Satterthwaite said that Mr Sandral’s services had been outstanding. The happy times that he had had in South Canterbury would leave him with many pleasant reminders, said Mr Sandral in reply.
