The traffic in faked passports continues, in spite of the efforts of Scotland Yard, the French police and the immigration authorities to suppress it. These forged passports, believed to be the work of a gang operating in Paris, are being sold to refugees at prices varying from £lO to £6O. Some passports are entirely the work of counterfeiters; others are genuine, though stolen, and accredit the holders with the nationality of countries other those from which they come. A German Jew, for instance, who was refused entrance at Folkestone recently, had a Czechoslavakian passport.

Famous Author As Pacifist Candidate The last Lord Rector of Glasgow University was the late Canon Dick Sheppard, who died suddenly a few days after his election a year ago. In the forthcoming contest for fcis successor another distinguished pacifist, Mr Laurence Housman, is standing as candidate. Mr Housman, who is 73, made his anti-war outlook known to the Home Secretary during the war, when he sent him a pamphlet setting forth his uncompromising views.
