TEMUKA ELECTORATE

MR T. D. BURNETT AT TYCHO On Tuesday evening Mr T. D. Burnett, Nationalist candidate for Temuka seat, addressed a record audience of about 70 electors In the Tycho School. Mr Burnett spoke for two hours and criticised the Government’s legislation of the last three years, and expressed the opinion that the Social Security Scheme was beyond the country’s capacity to bear. He also outlined the National Party’s policy and strongly urged the electors to return the Party, which stood for the rights of the individual as against the Government’s Socialistic policy. Mr Burnett was accorded an enthusiastic reception and was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Messrs W. A. Morrison and C. L. Orbell. No questions were asked. A motion expressing every confidence in the Hon. Adam Hamilton as Leader of the National Party was also carried with enthusiasm. Mr Burnett specially thanked the electors for their reference to Mr Hamilton, whom he considered admirably fitted to lead the Party. A vote of thanks was accorded the chairman, Mr C. M. Talbot. At Woodbury, Mr Burnett addressed a gathering of about 60 electors. Mr H. Wooding presided and a vote of thanks and confidence was moved by Mr F. R. Flatman and carried. At Tripp School, Mr A. J. Kennedy presided over an attendance of 25. A vote of thanks and confidence proposed by Mr S. Neutze and seconded by Mr G. Keen, was carried. There was an attendance of about 80 when Mr Burnett spoke at Staveley. Mr A. M. Russell presided. A vote of confidence was moved by Mr Macmillan, seconded by Mr R. M. Neill, and carried. An attendance of about 30 was present at Alford Forest, where Mr R. A. Grigg moved a vote of thanks which was seconded by Mr A. Hart, and carried. Hall-Jones, National candidate for Invercargill, opening his campaign this evening. “We must star.-.p out Socialism and tell the world we are not going to be slaves to conscription. I ask you to help me drag down the Red flag and hoist up the Union Jack.” Mr Hall-Jones spent much of his time declaring that the Labour Government was under the complete control of the eastern conference of the Labour Party.
