1939 Title Jim Ferrier, open and amateur golf champion of Australia, is leaving nothing to chance. Already he is preparing for the titles next year. On his way back from Adelaide, Ferrier stayed two days in Melbourne so that he could play three or four rounds at the Royal Melbourne course, where the open championship will be played next year. “I did not know the course very well,” said Ferrier yesterday, “so 1 thought I’d take the opportunity to become familiar with it. "I will now have something to think over for 12 months.” Unusual Gallery Members of the Yarram Golf Club often play before a gallery of kangaroos. It is not unusual to see four or five kangaroos browsing quietly on a fairway. The kangaroos are a great attraction to visitors. Koalas, and occasionally wallabies and emus, are also seen about .he links (says an Australian writer). South African's Programme Syd. Brews, South African exchampion golfer, Intends going to the United States and Canada for two months to play in a few of the major tournaments. Among the events that he intends to participate in are the Canadian Open, Cleveland and Glen Falls championships, and one or two smaller ones. Brews is undecided whether he will visit Europe on his way back to South Africa. No Women The tradition of Garden City Golf Club (U.S.A.), is that no woman must enter the club. During a National (meeting a hurricane ’ashed the course, and the dishevelled females were fc reed to take refuge from the element in the Press tent. Only when the tent was blown away were the women allowed on the clubhouse verandah as a special concession.
