MR HULTQVIST HONOURED United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright OPOTIKI, September 27 During the course of an address at Te Araroa, Mr A. G. Hultquist, Labour candidate, received unsual tributes tor his services as representative of the Bay of Plenty. At the close of the address. Mr W. P. Metcalfe, president of the local branch of the National Party, asked permission to make a statement, anti paid a tribute to the services rendered by Mr Hultquist, saying that, irrespective of political views, Mr Hultquist had undoubtedly served the electorate well. He could not let the opportunity pass without expressing his personal thanks as well as those of the district. When Mr Metcalfe concluded his remarks another well-known resident in the district asked permission to make a statement. He came forward to the platform with a sum of money wrapped in a handkerchief, which lie asked Mr Hultquist to accept as a token of appreciation of the services rendered to the people of Te Araroa and surrounding districts.
The parcel contained £5O, which had been collected that day and the previous one. Mr Hultquist was invited to do as he liked with it.
