RIFLE SHOOTING

DEFENCE CLUB FORMED A Defence Rifle Club was formed at a well attended meeting at Geraldine on Monday night. The Mayor (Mr J. R. Lack) who apologised for a number of Intending members, said there was no doubt that if a club were formed it would be a distinct gain to the district. The convener of the meeting (Mr S G. Sharman) outlined the various costs connected with the club. When discussing the question of a range, Mr J. Scott said that the old range at "Waitui" appeared to me all right, and Mr A. G. Macdonald would be pleased to place the range at the disposal of a club if formed. After further infomation had been given by Mr Sharman, it was unanimously decided, on the motion of Messrs J. Scott and L. Beattie, that a defence rifle club at Geraldine be formed. It was also agreed that subject to the Defence Department the range on the property of Mr Macdonald be used, and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Macdonald for his assistance in this matter. It was agreed that the rules of the Timaru Defence Rifle Club be adopted Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows.—President, Mr J. Gresham; vice-president, Messrs C. W. Lynn and L. Beattie; honorary secretary, Mr J. Scott; hon. treasurer, Mr R. Helem; club captain, Mr 8. G. Sharman; committee, Messrs G. Chapman, C. Burrows, H. Scott, J. Wooding, J. Gregan and C. Burrows; auditor, Mr W. McClure. It was agreed that the necessary permits be obtained and the range put in order as soon as possible. “ROSE OF TRALEE” Binkie Stuart heads the cast in the picture “Rose of Tralee,” which is being screenci at the Geraldine Municipal Theatre to-night at 8 o’clock. Featured with her are the eminent Irish tenor, Danny Malone, Fred Conyngham and Kathleen O'Regan. Binkie carries almost the entire burden of the story on her tiny shoulders, and helps to bring about the re-union of her mother and long-lost father. Danny Malone sings many old popular Irish numbers. Amongst them are, “Rose of Tralee," “Mountahis o’ Mourne," 'Town on Finnigan's Farm,” "Come Back to Erin” and “Did your Mother Come from Ireland.” The Geraldine Horticultural Society’s annual daffodil show will be held today in the Parish Hall.
