ADELE ISLAND
ANNEXED BY FRANCE LONDON. June 20. By simple decree, and with the ap- , pror/al of Great Britain, France has ■ just added nearly 160,000 square miles I of territory to her empire. This is a greater area than that of i Belgium, Holland, Italy, and Switzer- ’ land combined. It is only 50,000; square miles short of the area of | France itself. The territory, known as Adele Land, lies due south of the Great Australian | Bight, and stretches to the South I Pole. It is highly-mineralised, is similar in formation to Victoria, in Australia, | and has an equable temperature aver- | aging about 63 degrees F.
Adele Land is considered suitable for air bases, during summer months at least. After the autumnal equinox gales, with velocities up to 180 miles an hour, are fairly frequent.
