The latest idea in New York, is to match your dresses to your upholstery. It was noticed at a summer trade show of a large upholstering firm that some of the new types of materials are being doubled in clothes and upholstery. The colours of both are in accord. A canopy bed with a flounced bedspread of dotted Swiss material had a dotted dress to match and curtains of the same stuff. Some of the brocades used as hostess gowns are related to the brocades of living-room chairs and draperies. Novelty linen weaves in draperies and upholstery have echoes in dress fabrics as well. Printed satin for furniture and dresses is a favourite.
