FAST FLYING
SUCCESS OF BRITISH AIRCRAFT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, July 12. It is officially announced that the 11 Royal Air Force Hawker Hurricane planes that recently flew in formation from Northholt to Paris made a record on the return flight by flying over Croydon in 51 minutes and reached Northholt in 55 minutes.
Great Speed The time, 55 minutes, is the fastest time in which the journey between Paris and London has been made, either by individual aircraft or a formation. The Hurricane’s flight, which was against a strong wind, was made via Boulogne-Lympe to Northolt, a total distance of 235 miles. The approximate speed of the formation was 260 miles per hour. The previous record was 57 minutes, by a single civil aircraft, which flew direct between Croydon and Le Bourget, a distance of approximately 200 miles.
