MEAT SHORTAGE
CITY OF SYDNEY THREATENED United Press Association —By Eiectru Telegraph —Copyright (Recci*. -J July 13, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 13. City folk are threatened with a meat shortage, owing to the trouble at Homebush abattoirs, where there have been thirty strikes in the past eighteen months. The present dispute is due to the refusal of the mutton slaughtermen to accept an adjustment to their working hours, leading to a further hold-up. The Government is so exasperated that it has authorised Mr Mair (Minister of Labour) to call for volunteer labour in the morning. The strikers have now been joined by the slaughtermen from other abattoirs, as well as Newcastle.
