“Last year I visited Italy, a land rich in art and historical architecture but a poor land with no natural resources, and this year by way of a contrast, I have come to New Zealand, full of natural wealth and with fertile land, but as can be expected of a comparatively new country, sadly lac King in art,’’ said Dr. C. C. Fulmer, of St. Luke's Episcopalian Hospital. San j Francisco, in an interview in ChristI church. “You should import a good I architect out here," he said. “There is | a monotony in the similarity of your I homes and buildings, and yet even with i that similarity, the houses do not har- , monise with one another. It takes a I good architect to instil personality and J individuality into a house and to make |it harmonise with its neighbours. Los > Angeles, although perhaps a little too ! artificial, is a beautiful town, and that i beauty is attained by the harmony of | the beautiful homes. Ycur homes are quite good, comfortable homes, and probably inexpensive, but they lack the individual beauty of the American homes which are also inexpensive."
