RAII AV A Y SU R FACEMAN John Smith, single, aged 49. a surfaceman employed on track maintenance work by the Railways Department was found dead beside the main line on the Orari-Temuka section yesterday. The body of Smith, who resided in Geraldine, was brought to Temuka. and an inquest will be held to-day before the District Coroner, Mr H. Morgan. ARREST MADE THEFT OF MONEY ALLEGED Smart work by the police resulted in the arrest at Geraldine yesterday of a man on a charge of alleged theft of a sum of money. The arrest was made by Constable Grayburn who brougn’ - the man to Temuka, where he will b? charged to-day. Winners at cards were: Mrs F. Donithorne, Miss O. Clarke. Mr W. Torpe and J. Downes. A competition was won by Mrs E. Johansen. Music was supplied by Miss C. Benbow. Mr W. Seeler was M.C. The Church Mission is at present holding a series of lantern services conducted by Captain Walton at the St. Peter’s Church. Mr W. B. Bland, F.8.0.A. (Hons.), F. 1.0. (London), representing Procter’s, the Opticians, Christchurch, will be visiting Temuka and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Temuka Hotel, on Tuesday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can now be made by ringing the U.F.S.
