CANADIAN CONSERVATIVE CONVENTION SELECTION OF NEW LEADER United Press Association —By S-lectric Telegraph - Copyright OTTAWA, July 7. Dr. R. J. Manion, war veteran and medical man, was chosen to succeed Mr R. B. Bennett by a second ballot of the Canadian Conservative Convention. He is an advocate of moderate tariffs and of greater defence through Imperial co-operation. Prior to the selection Mr Bennett declined to accede to a strong demand that he should continue as leader. Mr W. D. Herridge. Mr Bennett’s brother-in-law, created a storm after his monetary reform resolutions were rejected with the declaration that the whole convention was “a lot of >unk and is reactionary controlled.” He was howled down with shouts of •‘Jeremiah!’’
