The Government's Holidays With Pay Bill has been published, xn fulfilment of the undertakings given recently in the House of Commons by the Minister of Latxur (Mr Ernest Brown), the Bill empowers trade boards, agricultural wages committees, and the road haulage central wages board to direct that any workers whose wages they regulate shall be gra. ted holidays, and the duration ol the holidays is to be related to the period of employment with an employer. In the case of trade boards and agricultural wages committees, holidays so granted cannot exceed c. maximum if seven days In the year, and in the case of agricultural wages committees there is a restriction that only three of these days can be required to be taken consecutively, otherwise the times, periods, and circumstances ii which holidays shall be allowed are left for settlement by a wage regulating authority. The Bill also deals with the power to enable the machinery of the Ministry of Labour to be used in the administration of the holiday scheme for paid holidays. This power can be exercised only if a joint application for assistance is made by organisations representing employers and workers In an industry, or branch of an Industry, to which the scheme relates. The provisions of the Bill inclu le making arrangements whereby the Ministry will issue to workers holiday payments due under the scheme. Where this powei is used both sums issued by the Ministiy and expenses attributable tc the working of the scheme wiL be recoverable l'-om the parties.
