SUPPLY PREACHER Among the arrivals in Auckland last week by the Monterey was the Rev. Dr. J. Morriston Thomas, D.D., D. Litt, of Chicago. United States, who will be supply preacher at Chalmers Presbyterian Church. Timaru, for three months. Dr. The mas. who is accompanied by Mrs homas, has long held a foremost place in his home city, Chicago, and is widely known throughout the States. It is expected that Dr. and Mrs Thomas will arrive in Timaru during Uris week, and that Dr. Thomas will occupy the pulpit on Sunday next. The Rev Dr. J. Morriston Thomas, is at present minister at Ravenswood Congregational Church Chicago, U.S.A., and in January of this year celebrated the 25th ann’versary of his continuous ministry there. He is alumnus of four American Colleges, and Knox and Frankton Colleges have conferred uoctorates upon him. His church, known as the Church of The Lighted Cross, is the first church at Lakeview 7 , and the oldest religious institution between Diversey Boulevard and Evanston, and has contributed largely in man power to the foreign work of the Gospel. It has encouraged, through its minister, several men to enter the ministry and always has been a very large contributor to the welfare of the community, many of its members serving philanthropic and charitable local institutions. Dr. Thomas was bom at Swansea, Wales, educated at Aberystwitb and Cardiff, taking his divinity degree at Bangor Theological Seminary, Banger, Maine. He was ordab.ed at Thomastown. Ohio, and served the Washington Avenue Church in Columbus, and Plymouth Church, in Newark.
