V/ACANCIES exist as follows in the * undermentioned branches of the New Zealand Division ot the Royal Navy:— ASSISTANT COOK. 1 vacancy for 12 years' continuous service. Age limits 18 to 23 years. Knowledge of cooking and baking is desirable but not essential. ASSISTANT STEWARD. 2 vacancies tor 12 years' continuous service. Age limits 18 to 23 years. ENGINE ROOM ARTIFICER. 2 vacancies for 12 years' continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during present year 19:1 to 24 years. Candidates must be competent at one of the following trades: — Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Coppersmith, Boilermaker or Enginesmith. They will be required to pass a technical examination, and trade test prior to entry. Those who hold a 2nd Class Engineer's Board of Trade Certificate will be accepted without technical examination. ELECTRICAL ARTIFICERS. 2 vacancies lor 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during p esent year 191 to 25 years. BLACKSMITH. 1 vacancy for 12 years' continuous service. Age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years' practical experience as Blacksmith. Will be required to pass a .rade test prior to cntiy. PAINTER. 1 vacancy tor 12 years continuous service. Age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’- practical experience as Painter. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. WRITER PROBATIONER. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 18 to 23 years. Candidates are required to pass a competitive examination which consists of Arithmetic, English (including spelling, handwriting and composition). Marks are also given lor (a) general smartness and knowledge as tested in conversation (b) typewriting and shorthand.

SICK BERTH PROBATIONER. 2 vacancies'for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 18 to 22 years. Canlidates are required to possess a fair Knowledge of Arithmetic (simple money sums; weights and measures; decimals, proportion and percentages) Knowledge of dispensary is desirable but not essential.
