AUCKLAND FIRE
DAMAGE PLACED AT £25,000 By lelegrapn Pres? Association AUCKLAND, July 9. Though an accurate assessment of the damage done by the fire in the joinery factory and workshops of the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., is impossible at this stage, a conservative estimate would be £25,000. This includes not only the damage to the buildings and plant, but to the stock, which comprised orders for several large jobs in the city, among which are woodwork for the naval base, for the Kauri Point naval job. and for the new block at the Auckland University College. A considerable part of the damage is not covered by insurance though insurance details are not available. The joiners employed by the firm are particularly unfortunate. Forty of them lost their entire set of tools, valued at some £l5. Two joiners had been on the job only two days. The firm is making an effort to start them on Monday morning, and is making a grant towards the replacement of tools.
