MASTERS AND MATES
NEW AWARD SOUGHT Bis i elegiapb -Hi hr, WELLINGTON. June 1. The hearing was commenced before a Conciliation Council to-day of the coastal masters’ and officers' dispute. Mr T. O. Bishop, the employers’ advocate, said the last award was made as a result of a complete agreement. The Merchant Service Guild was now proposing practically to drop the classification agreed to for the northern district in addition to seeking wage increases. Captain Macindoe, advocate for the masters and officers, said it could not be conceded that there was any real difference between the conditions in the north and those in the south. It was agreed to leave the proposed alteration in the classification of vessels in the Northern Industrial District and the wages question over till later. No agreement was reached, and the Council adjourned till to-morrow.
