TRUCKS DERAILED
MILE OF LINE FAMAGED By Telegraph Pres. Assoelation AUCKLAND. May 5. Almost a mile of railway track was damaged, sleepers splintered, and siding-points rendered useless, when two trucks on a north-bound mixed train left the rails, about a mile south of Taupaki, 22 miles north-west of Auckland, at 8.30 this morning. Though the trucks were dragged by the train, the crew and passengers were unaware of the accident until Taupaki was reached. The cause of the accident, which occurred on a straight section of rail, is unknown. The first waggon to leave the line was the fourth or fifth from the engine, being a ten-ton truck carrying basic slag. It apparently jumped the rails, and was dragged for nearly a mile, with the wheels ripping the track. The next truck in line was also dragged off the rails. Both undercarriages, and about a mile of sleepers will have to be replaced.
