TWO INQUESTS

FINDINGS OF CORONER That Fred Richards (aged 74) died from acute oedema of the brain was the verdict of the Coroner (Mr H. Morgan) at the inquest yesterday. Richards died suddenly at his home at Pareora last Sunday evening. Medical evidence was given by Dr. W. E. Gibson. The body was identified by Wilfred Richards, a son, Agnes Richards, the widow of the dead man. and Constable A. Lcckie, of St. Andrews. Constable Leckie said he had known the deceased intimately for the last three and a half years, and he had always appeared to ue in good health, though he had complained at times of his back and kidneys. He had been a meat grader for the last three months, and that work had been strenuous, even for a young man. Heart Disease A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, that the cause of death was advanced calcareous degeneration of the coronary arteries of the heart was returned at the inquest on Bernhard Arras yesterday. Deceased had died suddenly, at the age of 66, at his home on the morning of April 23. Evidence was given by Dr. F. F. A. Ulrich, Robert Caskey, Margaret Rubina Arras, daughter of the dead man, and Ann Arras, his widow.
