PLUNKET SOCIETY
TIMARU BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Timaru Branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday. Present: Mesdames L. M. Inglis (in the chair), C. S. Marshall, C. Hall, W. Sowerby, C. W. Wood jnr., F. Lewis, J. A. Millar, J. Henshaw, L. A. Scaife, G. R. Lee, P. Vesty, F. T. Wilson, C. S. Bruce, D. B. Shand, J. H. Holdgate, R. T. Turnbull, F. G. Raymond, and W. Raymond. It was decided to accede to the request of the Dominion Council to celebrate Founder’s Day, by holding a luncheon and inviting the country branches to join in the function. Advice from head office was received that Her Excellency Lady Galway would open the Dominion appeal for increased membership, by means of a short broadcast from Station IYA tomorrow, and this would be followed by four 10 minute talks by prominent members of the Society the following week. Members expressed regret that Dr Martin Tweed was resigning at the end of May from the position of Medical Adviser to the Council. Mesdames H. J. Brewer and Stevens were elected members of the committee. Tickets for the annual ball were handed to members of the committee Nurse’s Report The number of new cases both town and country is as follows.— Breast fed 14 Mixed feeding 1 Artificially fed 3 Total 18 Visits to homes— Old cases 191 New cases 53 Total 244 Visits to —CentralAdults 320 Babies 305 Older children 29 Total 654 Otipua Rd. (4 Adults .. .. .. .. .. .. 30 Babies 28 Older children 2 Total 60 St. Andrews (2 visits) Adults 8 Babies 7 Older children 2 Total 17 Two visits were paid to St. Andrews during the month. One lecture was given to a division of the St. John Ambulance. Whooping cough and Colds are still prevalent. The general health of babies and older children is satisfactory.
