KEEN COMPETITION IN LONDON United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 31, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. At the wool sales, 6740 bales were offered, including 1568 from New Zealand, and £357 were sold. A good selection was offered and sold well at steady rates. The tendency throughout was steady at the decline, but competition was keen. Compared with closing rates of last series prices were generally 5 per cent, lower. New Zealand lots sold as follows.— Greasy merino, Benopai, 12d to 12id. A total of 29,500 Australian and 39,000 New Zealand bales sold, 32,500 Australian and 16,500 New Zealand being held over. Offerings were rather below expectations due to a tendency by owners to hold off till later in the year. Throughout the series 93,600 bales were offered and 80.500 were sold. The Home trade bought 42,000, and the Continent 38,000.
