UNEMPLOYMENT IN FOXTON By Telegraph—Press Association FOXTON, March 31. Tlie Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, visited Foxton today in connection with unemployment resulting from the closing of the flaxmills. He was accorded a civic welcome at the Council Chamber by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau). Later at the Town Hall he addressed a large gathering when representations were made for certain works to be undertaken as employment measures. The Minister promised to place all ablebodied men at present on sustenance in Foxton, and indicated that consideration would be given to overhauling the borough sewerage winch was damaged by earthquakes and liable to collapse. Discussing the flax industry, -he expressed a hope for the rehabilitation of the industry as a result of the operation of New Zealand Woolpacks, Ltd., and further development along similar lines. An inspection was made of the woolpack factory and the Moutoa flax area.
