LICENSEE FINED
TRAVELLERS REFUSED LODGINGS By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, March 31. Described by Sub-Inspector Packer as a rather rare case in Christchurch, a charge against Thomas Thomson was heard in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, that, being the licensee of the Southern Cross Hotel, he failed to supply lodgings when requested to do so. Thomson pleaded guilty, and was fined £1 by Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M. Sub-Inspector Packer said that a traveller went to the hotel to seek accommodation for two relatives, and was refused. Inquiries revealed that there were no lodgers at the time. Apparently the difficulty 'was caused by the housekeeper being away. Counsel said it was an exceptional case. There were only two occasions in the last twelve months when accommodation at the hotel had been asked for. On the night that accommodation was sought the housekeeper was absent under unusual circumstances.
