GERALDINE SCHOOL GROUNDS

Improvements in Hand GOOD PROGRESS MADE Good progress is being made with the various improvements which are being carried out by the Public Works Department at the grounds of the Secondary and Primary Departments of the Geraldine District High School. At the Secondary Department at Raukapuka an area. 80ft. by 112 ft. at the north-east side of the school is being asphalted for use as a parade ground for drill purposes. The second coat of asphalt has been completed by six men under the foreman, Mr R. U. Richards, and a few days should see the final top-dressing finished. The entrance gate and the paths round the building and leading to the outbuildings will also be asphalted.

At the Primary Department in Cox Street another six men have reached the same stage in the preparation of an asphalt drill area of the same dimensions. Portion of the macrocarpa hedge fronting the School and surrounding the headmaster's residence has been removed, and is being replaced with a fence more in keeping with the surroundings. Previously the view at the intersection of Cox and Wright Streets was obscured to some extent by the macrocarpa hedge, although it had been topped, and the removal of the fence altogether will make a considerable improvement in regard t-o the safety of the children crossing the intersection.
