SYDNEY HARBOUR DISASTER

INQUEST ON RODNEY VICTIMS ENDS MASTER NOT GUILTY OF CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 10, 9.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 10. The inquest on the Rodney victims was continued to-day. Police evidence was to the effect that the vessel did not appear to be overloaded. The owner, Rosman, said he told the deckhand to send people off the top deck but they refused to leave. He ordered some down but they immediately returned. The coroner found that the deaths were accidentally caused, hut said it could not be disputed that an excessive number of passengers had been carried on the Rodney’s top deck. The master was liable under the Navigation Act, but the evidence did not show that he had been guilty of negligence that would approach criminal negligence.
