Wellington Suburbs) gave notice to ask the Minister of Finance whether, in view of the housing shortage and with the object of encouraging private enterprise to erect additional houses, the Government would give the House an assurance that during its term of office no further legislative restrictions would be imposed on prospective house builders. Mr J. Hargest (Nationalist, Awarua) presented several largely signed petitions to the House asking for an increase in the guaranteed price of daiiy produce this season. Mr W. J. Polson (Nationalist, Stratford) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister whether his attention had been drawn to a suggestion reported in the press to have been made to the Prime Minister of Great Britain to put a retaliatory embargo on New Zealand butter and lamb to counter the New’ Zealand tariff on British footw’ear. whether he had issued any instructions to the High Commissioner in possibility of any proposed boycott occurring, and whether he would infoim the House if the policy of reciprocal trade formerly enunciated by the Minister of Finance had now been abandoned. Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Nationalist, Waitomo), in an urgent question asked the Minister in charge of State Forests if he w’ould take st?ps to enable approved contractors to obtain supplies of fencing posts from State forests for the fanning community. The Hon. F. Langstone, in reply, said it was already the policy of the Government to approve of contractors getting fencing posts from State forests provided the necessary royalty was paid. On the motion of the Prime Minister it was agreed that the House should sit to-morrow from 2.30 to 10.30 p.m.. and on Saturday from 10.30 a.m. until 5.30 p.m.. with the usual adjournments for meals.
