PLEASANT VALLEY

TENNIS AFFAIRS There was a good attendance of members of the tennis club when Mr F. R. Wilks presided over a special meeting called to consider the matter of proceeding with the laying down of a new court. A financial statement showed that although more money would be necessary to provide funds for the project sufficient was in hand to warrant a start being made with the work, which it is hoped will be completed in time to allow play at the beginning of next season. A sub-committee comprising Miss M. Webb, Messrs R. Murphy, J. Mulvey, H. Worner and F. R. Wilks was elected for the purpose of preparing estimates and making preliminary arrangements. It was decided to investigate the advisability of laying down a green concrete court, instead of a tar one. Correspondence was read concerning the annual tournament at Temuka. The matter of entries was left to members. The majority of those present expressed their intention of assisting at the gymkhana on that day. The matter of making arrangements for a dance was left to the secretary Miss M. Webb. Arrangements for a return match against Woodbury were left in the hands of Mr H. Worner. GYMKHANA COMMITTEE Mr H. Hill presided over a meeting of the gymkhana committee. It was decided to arrange for a bus from Geraldine on the day of the gymkhana. It was agreed to include a walking race for women in the programme. Mr T. Robinson was appointed to take charge of the children's races and Mr W. Crotty the car events. PERSONAL Miss R. Padgett has been spending a holiday in Timaru.
