ANOTHER DIET

MILD SODA POP Some people follow diets slavishly. Cut out potatoes, limit their meat, etc. Others consume large quantities of bread and butter daily—and miraculously lose weight, although bread and butter in others diets are taboo. It all sounds bewildering and most illogical, and nobody can be blamed, really, for preferring to stay fat rather than adopt one of these diets, writes an overseas correspondent. Yet another one comes from America, where diets have a habit of originating, I don’t know why. But this time it is for those who wish to gain weight. Why anyone should wish to do that it is hard to understand, and most aggravating to those whose sole thought it ’s to dispose of adipose tissue. But there it is.

Mary Astor has sponsored the latest diet fad, and it sounds easier to adopt than many we have heard about, certainly. It is a drink make of one part of cream to three parts of ginger ale, and the result is a mild soda pop. It is said to be extremely palatable, and an effective weight builder. After a little while, however, we should think the dietiests would be off cream—and ginger ale—for life.
