SUGAR BEET CROPS

SAMPLES TAKEN FOR TESTS Sugar-beet growing in the Temuka district, aided by improved weather conditions since November, has this season been carried out most successfully so far as the cultivation of the crops is concerned. The stage in development where the roots may be tested for their sugar content has now been reached and yesterday samples were taken by Mr A. Grant, of the Agricultural Department, for testing at the Temuka laboratory of the Public Works Department. A report on the progress of the crop and result of the investigations is to be made shortly. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs C. R. Cooper, Allnatt Street, who have been on a camping holiday in the Nelson district, have returned home. Miss Patricia Radburnd, Cass Street, who has been the guest of Mrs E. Andrews, Hinds, for the last three weeks, returned home yesterday. Mr and Mrs F. Beumelburg, who have been visiting Mr and Mrs W. H. McMillan, Wood Street, have returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs G. Box, Birkett Street, are spending a holiday in the north.
