WOMEN PATROLS

APPOINTMENT FAVOURED By Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, March 10 Although women police were not wanted in New Zealand, a great deal of social work and prevention of crime among young people could be effected by women patrols, decided the National Conference of New Zealand Justices of the Peace at New Plymouth this morning. A Taranaki remit that the necessary legislation should be enacted to provide for the appointment and training of women police was accordingly altered to provide for women patrols. These women would not have power to make arrests, but could take names and addresses, and call in the regular police where necessary.
