N.Z. EXHIBITION

HEAVY BOOKINGS OF SPACE HOUSING OF VISITORS By Telegraph H'cm AssoctatlOD WELLINGTON. March 9. The Board of Directors and committees of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company are in full swing with many activities for the big enterprise. At this week’s meeting of directors it was reported that the bookings and reservations of space amounted to about 60.000 square feet—nearly a quarter of the total space available for private exhibits and displays in Provincial Courts. Apart from the Government Court < 130.000 square feet), the total floor space in the Exhibition blocks is 420.212 square feet (comprising 170.961 square feet of passages and 249.251 square feet available for sale). The oooking progress was regarded as satisfactory at this stage. Provincial Couits It is expected that the prospect of a large influx of visitors from overseas during the exhibition will induce the organisers of Provincial Courts to have impressively spectacular displays. The report of Mr Charles Todd to the directors on the visit of Mr J. T. Martin and himself to the South Island mentioned that satisfactory arrangements had been made in Southland, Otago, South Canterbury and North Canterbury. Committees had been set up to go into the question of the establishment of Provincial Courts. It is expected that similar action will be taken soon in Hawke’s Bay which will be visited by Sir Alexander Roberts. Planning for Accommodation Faced with the prospect of a very large number of visitors to Wellington during the exhibition, the directors are taking every possible precaution to ensure satisfactory accommodation. They have the active co-operation of the City Council’s Housing Committee, proprietors of public and private hotels, and boarding houses are being asked to state the extent of their present accommodation and whether they can supp enunt it with suitable an’.t>es. Priva*.? citizens are also being asked whether they will be able to take paying guests in their homes. The directors will also fully exploit the possibility of exchanges of accommodation between Wellington residents and people beyond the city.
