ENGLISH VISITOR
MATILDA, LADY WILLIAMS After spending a lifetime actively engaged in social and political activites, Mataildn, Lady Williams, of London, who is - making a leisurely tour of the world, arrived in Auckland by the Waiwera, states the “New Zealand Herald.” She will remain in Auckland about a week and intends visiting Rotorua and Waitomo before proceeding to Australia. She is accompanied by her nephew, Captain L. J. Arnott, »of Dublin.
Lady Williams spent much of her time in Devonshire, but has lived more recently in London. She has toured extensively and visited Australia in 1906. New Zealand was not included in her itinerary on that occasion, but she said she was anxious to see some of the Dominion’s scenic resorts. “During the war I was head of the Belgium Food Fund,” said Lady Williams, “and we received a tremendous amount of assistance from New Zealand. We were very grateful for it. I do not take such an active interest in some of the organisations now, but I am still interested in the Unionist Conservative Association. Conditions are better at home at present, and there is not so much unemployment. There is a certain amount of anxiety, though, with the war being fought in the Far East.”
