CANTERBURY’S POOR SHOWING

Auckland scored an easy outright win over Canterbury in the Plunket Shield match at Eden Park to-day, the home team winning in three days by an innings and 193 runs. Auckland spent the day in the field, and after dismissing Canterbury in the first innings for 258, made the visitors follow’ on and dismissed the whole side in tw T o and a-quarter hours for 139. With low scoring general, the bowlers secured good figures. Cowie had a successful match, taking four for 55 in the first innings and two for 39 in the second. Burke took two for 91 and three for 55, and Pasties in the second innings took four for 20 in seven overs.
The only noteworthy feat by a batsman went to the credit of Mcßae, who hit three sixes off successive balls from Burke. The Governor-General, Lord Galway. was a spectator at the match, and at the afternoon tea interval took the opportunity of shaking hands with members of the teams. Scores:—
