SHIELD AND CASKET MATCHES CANTERBURY IN THE LEAD By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, January 7. After many keenly fought matches, Canterbury gained a lead of four rubbers to two against Wellington in both the Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield and Kathleen Nunneley Casket contests at Wilding Park to-day. Canterbury, defending the trophies for the fourth successive year, is thus in a fairly strong position for the final matches to-morrow afternoon, although it is not beyond the powers of the strong challenging teams to recover the lost ground. The results were:— WILDING SHIELD Singles C. Angas (Canterbury) beat N. F. N. Bedford (Wellington), 6-1, 6-1. H. A. Barnett (Canterbury) beat N. V. Edwards (Wellington), 7-5, 6-3. H. Dymond (Canterbury) lost to D. G. France (Wellington), 7-9, 3-6. A. R. Cant (Canterbury) lost to E. A. Roussell (Wellington), 2-6, 0-6. Doubles Barnett and Cant (Canterbury) beat Bedford and Roussell (Wellington), 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
