WOMEN'S DIVISION

TIMARU-ST. ANDREWS BRANCH Last Tuesday the T..aaru-St Andrews branch of the Farmers’ Union an the Women’s Division held thenannual picnic. The day was beautifully fine and warm, and the site chosen, near the Tycho Crossing of the Pareora, was ideal for a day in the open. After lunch under the ■ illows, a programme of sports was gone through for children and adults. The following were the prize winners:— Women’s quoits: Mrs A. Bennett 1. Mrs L. Bell 2. Croquet: Mrs A. Bennett 1, Miss B. Moyle 2. Stepping: Mrs Wm. Bennett 1. Miss B. Moyle 2. Clock Golf: Miss Gladys Caird I, Miss Leanda McNeur 2. Sheaf Tossing: Wyn Evans 1, A. J. Davey 2. Hitting stick blindfolded: A. J. Davey 1. Alan Dickson 2. Stepping: Jim Stowell 1, Wyn Evans Quoits: Alan Dickson 1, A. Bennett 2. After tea. Mrs Bell, president, welcomed the guests, and said that as well as having a picnic they were also celebrating the eighth birthday of the branch. She then called on the following to light the candles on the cake: Mrs Stewart (Maungati), Mrs Irwin (Craigmore Downs), Mrs France • Levels), Mrs Ward (Southburn), Miss Davey (Temuka) and Mrs Moran (Timaru). Mrs Buchan, president of the Timaru branch, was then asked to cut the cake. Mrs Buchan congratulated the Timaru branch and referred I > its many useful activities.

Mr A. W. Buchan, president of the South Canterbury executive, Mr D. France, and Mr A. J. Davey, also spoke, eulogising the enthusiasm of the womenfolk, and wishing them further success in their efforts.

A Christmas tree added to the pleasure of the children. Mrs B. E. Evans, on behalf of the branch, presented Mrs Bell (president), Miss Moyle (secretary) and Miss Caird (treasurer), with small gifts in recognition of the time and energy they put into their work. A vote of things was passed to _Zr Evans for the use of his property.
