A TRIP SOUTH
PRIME MINISTER’S PLANS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, January 6. It is the intention of the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, to pay a visit to the South Island in the near future and, if possible, before the adjourned session of Parliament is resumed on March 1. In indicating this in an interview this evening, Mr Savage said it was dependent on the progress made by the Ministry with the work on hand. This includes the formulation of proposals for the Government’s National Health and National Superannuation Measures. In the meantime he could not discuss dates for his visit beyond saying he wanted to go sputh as soon as he could and, if possible, before the House of Representatives resumed. Mr Savage stated that there would be no meeting of the Cabinet before next week, but a lot of preliminary work was being put in hand straight away. In addition to the National Health Service and National Superannuation Measures, consideration would be given to some amendments to the taxation laws. The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, had had a committee working on taxation for some time. “It is just a question as to how much of it we can give effect to in the remaining part of the session,” the Prime Minister said.
