CONDITIONS IN TIMARU There was a southerly change on Tuesday night, and in the early hours of yesterday morning heavy rain fell. It continued for several hours after which the sky cleared and there was brilliant sunshine and warm conditions for the remainder of the day. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Max. temp—6B.B. Min. temp, on grass—s4.B. Wind—Nil. Rainfall—.76ins. Rainfall to date this year—,Bslns. Sunshine—6.9 hours. Sunshine to date this year—ls. 6 hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch—The weather was fine yesterday. The morning was overcast but the afternoon brilliantly fine. A fresh north-east breeze was blowing. The maximum temperature was 67 degrees. The barometer showed a falling tendency. The reading at 5 p.m. was 29.48 in. Ashburton—After close conditions on Tuesday the north-west wind which was blowing moderately in the daytime increased in force in the evening, and when night fell was blowing extremely violently. At about midnight there was a change to the south, following some showers of rain, which were fairly heavy for a time. Twentyeight points were recorded. The weather was dull yesterday. The. r P were one or two intervals 'if sunshine in the morning, but the sky was for the most part heavily overcast. The temperature was cooler and a light southeasterly wind was blowing. Geraldine—Heavy rain in the early morning, bright sunshine in the afternoon. Rainfall at “Waitui,” 82 points. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Thermometer, maximum, 81.0; minimum, 54.0; rain, 68 points; bright sunshine. 18 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours 79. Rain fell yesterday morning but ceased about noon. The afternoon was overcast. Dunedin—Heavy showers fell late on Tuesday and the weather yesterday was dull and threatening. The barometer fell to 29.50 inches. There was a breeze from the north-east throughout the day and the temperatures were lower than on the previous day. Winds—Northerly to north-westerly predominating, but backing at times to west or south-west, moderate mainly, but strong at times.
