CENTRAL EUROPE UNDER SNOW SEVERAL DEATHS FROM COLD United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 5, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 4. Central Europe is in the grip of the severest winter for ten years. Snowstorms are sweeping Germany where the roads and railways are blocked, and traffic is dislocated in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Italy and France. The Rome correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph” states that the cold is playing havoc in Italy. Burst pipes are leaving houses without water. Several people in Milan have died from the cold. Fruit and flower farms in the Italian Riviera have been devastated by frosts. The Berlin correspondent of "The Times” states that 8400 men are shovelling snow in the Berlin streets, where seven hundred snow ploughs are also engaged. Hungary experienced the coldest day since 1929. Every river except the Danube was frozen.

Paris was blanketed by snow this afternoon.

Three persons have died of cold in Bulgaria. The whole of Czechoslovakia is snowbound, and several packs of wolves driven out by the cold, penetrated across the frontier from Rumania. The Casablanca correspondent of “The Times” states that the weather is the coldest for many years. Throughout Morocco many roads are blocked by snow. A motor-bus skidded on the ice at Bolanzo and plunged into a torrent. Five German tourists were lulled and thirteen seriously injured. Even the crater of Vesuvius is snowcapped.
