DISCONTENT IN ITALY!
REVOLUTION BY SPRING? According to reports that have! reached here, there is much unrest in Italy, and one highly placed Italian I officer has said that revolution might j break out before the spring. The correspondent of “L’Oeuvre” at j Chambery, near the Italian frontier,l reports that there is discontent in j Italy, and that the political and eco- j nomic situation is reaching a dangerous turning point. General opinion in Northern Italy opposes the military campaigns in Abyssinia and Spain, and thousands j of anti-war leaflets and much pacifist literature have been distributed in all I the large towns. Into letter-boxes at Turin and Milan have been pushed leaflets containing the following statement:—“Death to Fascism, which causes ruin and pre- | pares for the slaughter of young child- i ren. Crush Fascism and save Re-1 publican Spain!” i “L’Oeuvre” adds that soldiers returning from Abyssinia are staging I demonstrations against the high cost of living and Signor Mussolini’s warlike attitude. Already there has been rioting in Lombardy. Several priests have been arrested for having distributed revolutionary literature.
