A Geraldine team beat Woodbury by five wickets in a friendly match played at the Woodbury Domain. Woodbury made 25 runs in the first innings (R. Burdon 10 >. Geraldine scored 53 (E. E. Scott 15, S. Callanan 11.) In the second innings Woodbury scored 87 (A. D. Sharpe 35. M. Tripp 21). Geraldine replied with 63 for five wickets <E. E. Scott 19, S. Callanan 11). VITAL STATISTICS INCREASE IN BIRTHS During 1937 the number of births increased by 15, but the same number of deaths occurred as in 1936. The statistics, as compiled by the Registrar, Mr L. S. R. For the quarter ended December 31 the figures were—Births: Male 10 (6), female 10 (6). total 20 (12). Deaths: Male 4 (2), female 0 (4), total 4 (6). Marriages 4 (5). DOWNPOUR OF RAIN Accompanied by a driving sou’-west wind, after nor’-west conditions during the day, heavy rain fell late on Tuesday night and in the early hours of yesterday morning. As a result 82 points of rain was registered on Mr B. R. Macdonald’s gauge at “Waitui” for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday. Conditions were fine and warm later, with bright sunshine throughout the afternoon.
