OBITUARY
MR A. CARNEGY Prominent for many yer.../in Timaru as an outstanding committee man, Mr Alexander Carnegy, of 44 Rhodes Street, died on Monday. He leaves a widow and three daughters, one married. Mr Carnegy was for some time chairman of the Main School Committee, and after leaving the district, was elected to the committee of the South School, on which he was serving till the time of his death. He was also well-known as chairman of the South End Ratepayers’ and Householders’ Association. Before coming to Timaru, Mr Carnegy had extensive experience in committee work on the West Coast and in Southland. "RITA” United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 3. The death is announced from London of Mrs W. Desmond Humphries who was well known as a novelist under the pseudonym of “Rita.” She was educated in Australia, but the greater part of her life Was spent in England.
