PLEASANT VALLEY

RESIDENTS BALL On Saturday the Pleasant Valley Hall was the scene of the most successful dance held there for a considerable time, visitors being present from as far distant as Ashburton and Timaru. As a result of the large attendance the Children’s Christmas Party Fund will benefit considerably. Novelty dances were won by Miss Joan Brophy and partner and by Miss Trumper and Mr Chisnail. During the evening competitions were won by Miss E. E. Thompson, Miss N. Rooney, and Mr J. Lang. Music was supplied by an orchestra, extras being played by Messrs D. Heney and J. Kerr. Mr R. Tindall was master of ceremonies. Mr F. R. Wilks, on behalf of the organisers thanked all present for their attendance. Those present included: Mr and Mrs G. Bailey, Mr and Mrs H. Crotty, Chisnall. M. Cooling, C. Shaw. Dean, Smith. SOCIAL COMMITTEE A meeting of the Pleasant Valley Social Committee was held in Monday. Messrs J. Crotty and T. Robinson were present as representatives of the hall trustees to explain why the Social Committee had been charged for the hall at a higher rate than is customary. On retiring they were accorded a vote of thanks for attending.

The treasurer, Mr F. R. Wilks, presented a balance-sheet which showed that the New Year's Day dance had been a very profitable one. After a long discussion, it was agreed to call a meeting of ail clubs and committees in the district to discuss the advisability of co-operating with the hall trustees in raising sufficient money to liquidate the debt on the hall and make much needed improvements to the supper room and cloak rooms. T t was decided to have an open meeting in order that all interested be given the opportunity of being present.

Messrs G. Crotty, J. Gale and F. R. Wilks were elected trustees of the Children's Christmas Party Fund. On the motion of Mr N. Gale and Mr J. Gale it was decided to vote 10/to the Hall funds.

Mr G. Crotty on behalf of the residents thanked those responsible for organising the dance to raise funds for the Christmas party.

On the motion of Mr Wilks it was decided to thank the hall trustees for the free use of the hall for the meeting and for abandoning their New Year's Day dance in favour of the residents’ dance. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs F. Aldridge who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Bailey, are now staying with Mr and Mrs G. Bailey. Mr and Mrs G. H. Stonyer, Orari Bridge, are the guests of Mrs F. R. Wilks. Mrs G. Tiplady will return from Ellesmere to-day. Messrs C. and L. Holden, Christchurch, and L. Holden, West Coast, spent the week-end with Mrs J. Sharpe. Miss E. Hughes, Wellington is staying with her parents. Mr and Mrs T. H. Hughes, Hilton Road. Mr Cudby, Upper Hutt, is the guest of Mrs Gregan. Mr J. Gregan left on Monday for Dunedin. Miss Thompson, Temuka, was the guest of Mrs T. H. Hughes, for the Christmas holidays.
