CONDITIONS IN TIMARU The sky was overcast yesterday and the atmosphere uncomfortably warm and close. The nor'wester which had threatened all day arose in the late afternoon but was not of great strength and it died away in the evening, leaving the air oppressively warm. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Max. temp.—Bo.4. Min. temp, on grass—s4.R. Wind—Calm. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—.o9ins. Sunshine—. 3 hours. Sunshine to date this year—B.7 hours. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— The weather was verI cast and oppressively hot yesterday. The maximum temperature was 84 degrees. The barometer fell sharply to 29.60 in at 5 p.m. A light north-west wind blew throughout the day. Ashburton— The hottest day of the nimmer so far was experienced on ? Monday, when the maximum shade j temperature was 88.2 degrees. Conditions yesterday were sultry, the temperature being close and the sky over- [ cast. There was a north-easterly wind. Temuka: Overcast and close conditions were prevalent yesterday, with a maximum temperature of 86 degrees. The minimum recording was 53 degrees. The glass was falling last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday: Thermometer, maximum 77.0; minimum 57.0; bright sunshine, 6 hours; wind gauge, miles run in last 25 hours, 19. Yesterday was slightly overcast and sultry. Dunedin— The sky was overcast yesterday and barometric pressure was unusually low, but the day was very hot. The maximum temperature was 87 degrees. In the morning there was a gusty wind from the north-west, but this changed to a light north-easterly early in the evening. The temperature at 6.30 p.m. was 77 degrees.
