Colonel A. M. Kettlewe'l and Colonel P. S. Allen, retired English Army officers, arrived at Wellington by the Awatea, after a trip through the East. They will fish for trout in the South Island and will then go to Taupo.

Captain W. H. Hartman, formerly commander of the Shaw Savill liners Tamaroa and Akaroa, arrived at Auckland on Friday in command of the Mataroa. He was for some time marine superintendent for the company at Wellington, but was entered as a seagoing officer again at his own request.

Mr Ikuwo Tai, manager of the Nippon Keito Boseki Kaisha, Ltd., Osaka, Japan, one of the largest woollen manufacturing companies in that country, arrived at Wellington by the Awatea. He will visit Christchurch, Dunedin and Mount Cook. He will return to Wellington for the wool sale on January 10.

Sub-Lieutenant G. C. Crowley, R. N., arrived at Auckland by the Mataroa to join the Imperial escort vessel Wellington in succession to Lieutenant D. Vincent-Jones, who is returning to England at the expiry of his period of service in the ship. SubLieutenant Crowley has only recently finished a course at Portsmouth.

Paymaster-Lieutenant-Commander W. J. G. Prophit, who acted as secretary to Vice-Admiral Sir Geoffrey Blake when the latter was commodore commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, has been promoted to the rank of paymastercommander, according to advice received in Auckland. He is at present secretary to Rear-Admiral R. V. Holt on the China station.
