DICTATE WINS HANDICAP By Telegraph—Press Association OAMARU, January 3. The Oamaru Jockey Club’s New Year meeting was held to-day in perfect weather. The track was in splendid order after the rain and there was a good .attendance to enjoy an excellent day's racing, in spite of the fact that some of the fields were rather cramped. The totalisator, conducted on the win and place system, showed an increase of £1583, handling £13,797, against £12,214 last year. Results:—

Forced to take the lead from the rails position, the favourite, High Glee, set a slow pace, but the field came home over the last four furlongs very fast. High Glee retained the lead into the straight and was being hard ridden at the distance, but 100 yards from the post Dictate ran up to him and went on to win comfortably by half a length, with Silver Streak, which looked dangerous at the distance, a similar distance away third. Time—2min 9 3-ssec.

Won by a neck, three lengths between second and third. Time—lmin 14sec. CONSISTENT FILLY SYDNEY, January 3. Amiable equalled the weight-carrying record for a filly in the Standish Handicap. Sporting writers are acclaiming her as the best three-year-old sprinter since Waltzing Lily. The Melbourne correspondent of “The Sydney Morning Herald” states that no more consistent filly has been seen for a long time, Amiable having scored four wins, a second and a fourth in the last six starts.
