CONDITIONS IN TIMARU The last day of the holidays was favoured with beautiful weather. There was brilliant sunshine tempered by a cool sea breeze. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Max. temp.—74.B Min. temp, on grass—ss. Wind—N.N.E.2. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—.o9lns. Sunshine—B.2 hours. Sunshine to date this year—B.4hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton— For the most part the first week-end of 1938 in Ashburton was dull and wet. Grey skies that threatened rain hung over the town on Saturday and Sunday and there was some rain on each of these days, the falls recorded up to 9 a.m. for January 1,2 and 3 respectively being 11 points. There were glorious conditions yesterday, following a dull early morning, and the temperature rose rapidly. Glen-iti—The rainfall at “Orielton,” Glen-iti for 1936 was 34.52 inches, and for 1937 was 24.67 inches. Christchurch—The weather was fine yesterday. The morning was overcast but the afternoon brilliantly fine. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees. A light north-east breeze was blowing all day. Dunedin — The weather yesterday was sunny and the temperatures were high, the maximum being 78 degrees. A slight breeze was blowing from the north-east. The barometer fell to 29.75 inches.
