The Chinese are treating all their nationals co-operating with Japan as traitors. Chinese Counter-Attack A counter-attack, with the object of recapturing Hangchow, is reported to have been launched by General Chang Fahwei, Commander of the Chinese “Ironsides.” Severe fighting is said to be raging. Both sides are using heavy artillery. It is also reported that the Chinese have begun a counter offensive north of Pukow and claimed to have made good progress on both fronts.

Hand grenades thrown from a Chinese building at 70 sight-seeing Japanese soldiers walking across the International Settlement, south of Foochow Creek, injured one Japanese officer and three Japanese soldiers and three Chinese police. Municipality's Reply As a sequel to the grenade throwing, the municipality has Invested the police with emergency powers, including the refusal of the Settlement's sanctuary to the perpetrators of outrages, who are liable to be expelled or handed over to the troops attacked.
