DEATH OF NEW ZEALAND NURSE IN LONDON United Press At relation—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 2, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 1. The inquest on Miss Nettie Penham Arnold, a New Zealander who was killed in a fall from an underground train, revealed that she jumped from the train. She had been worried about the preparation of a report on hospital conditions on behalf of the New Zealand Government. A verdict was returned of suicide. A New Zealander, Miss Nettle Penham Arnold, a hospital matron, died from injuries in London last Wednesday, sustained in a fall from an underground train near St. James's Park. The accident delayed the services for fifteen minutes. Miss Arnold was matron of the St. Helen’s Hospital. Wellington. She was trained in the Dunedin Hospital, and later she was appointed to take charge of the Palmerston South Maternity Hospital. Later she was matron of St. Helens, Invercargill, where she remained till ICC 3, when she received an appointment to Wellington. She left Wellington in Februar. last on a year’s leave of absence for study abroad, and she Intended visiting Holland, Denmark. Sweden and Finland to study midwifery work. Her report is expected from the High Commissioner’s Office in the near future. Miss Arnold’s relatives live near Ashburton.
