VICIOUS ASSAULT

MAN SEVERELY WOUNDED By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, January 2. Saturated with blood which flowed freely from severe wounds in the head, a visitor to the city, Philip Andrew Moore, of Tiniroto, near Gisborne, laboriously made his way from Victoria Park to a nearby shop shortly after 7 o’clock on Friday evening, stating he had been attacked by two men, one of whom had hit on the head with a bottle. The injured man said one of the men had held him while the other savagely assaulted him, and before leaving him they robbed him of his watch and chain and a purse containing about £3/10/-. The assault, a particularly savage one, is considered one of the worst committed in Auckland for some time. Although it was not dark, there were few people near the park. Moore was taken to the hospital in a serious condition.
